As it turns out, Panasonic isn't cutting the Technics 1200's, which is a good thing. That said, I don't see anything wrong with going digital as long as we remember where we came from, but I think the vinyl interface is crucial to that even if it's using Serato... something about the feel of a turntable, at least for me, that makes DJ'ing what it is. Anyway, whatever you choose, have fun!

Nice insight... it's good to hear that there are lots of DJs out there using vinyl turntables. I am a begginner and still acquiring some vinyl records and sometimes I wonder if that's still the way to go nowadays considering I would need a large collection of vinyls when there is Serato and digital sets out there where you can just DJ with MP3s and a laptop...
Thanks!

sounds very similar to an experience i had not too far back with STS9... although i remember that night evolving into more about time spent with an old friend... it is interesting as we get older how the significance of certain experiences resonates on a different frequency... those old melodies of the past still provide context of our life's soundtrack, yet like any musical composition... there are interludes, fades, abstract expressions, and unforeseen changes... music is life that way i suppose. beautiful thing.

also want to acknowledge that like any of us that are actively trying to seek out what humanity is and how it applies to us, we can have good and bad sets. perhaps it was just an off not, which i have heard many LA crowds have been partly responsible for...

i still had a good time, positive experience...

dude, i saw them recently as well and had the same reaction, though it was my first show. i absolutely love "artifact" and was quite let down by the performance. no one was even playing instruments minus the drummer, who seemed to be eternally locked to a click track.

i also recently saw prefuse, unfortunately though it was another let down. the mix was sooooo friggin loud and bad at the club that i couldnt make out anything. he was sharing the stage with two other dudes who just made noise the whole night. i love the dude's music, but the show left much to be desired.

what up dibo. I also saw this interview, really good stuff. I saw it on a DVD about early electronic music, called OHM. Although somewhat dry, there are interviews with Theremin, Babbitt, Cage, and others and it's a really neat look into how electronic music evolved from Musique Concrete up to people like Eno.

If you think Eno is a godfather, you gotta check out people like Karl Stockhausen, Edgard Varêse, and Milton Babbitt and see where the shit really started.

good place to start would be Edgard Varêse "Poeme Electronique" which premiered at the World Fair in 1958.

if you wanna check out the DVD, you can pick it up @

by the way, that he-man weed smokin video is straight up hilarious!

i often have the same issues. the greatest thing for me is when you amass enough "unfinished" material that you can combine all the little pieces of unrelated songs and throw them all together. oftentimes you discover things lining up in really "cosmic" ways that you would have never imagined.

accidents are beautiful
